SMART Goal Setting

Now that you know where you’re starting from, where you’re going and the difference between goals & desires…it’s time to start making your goals. Join me as we discuss how to make SMART goals. Welcome to Dr. Devin’s Wellness Wednesday Workshop where my goal is to help you maintain or improve your active lifestyle. We will answer these questions today:

  1. What are SMART goals?
  2. How do you build the bridge to your goals?

(Answers below the video 😉)

  1. SMART goals are:
    1. Specific – state exactly what you want to accomplish
    2. Measurable – so you can know where you are in relation to your goals
    3. Achievable – the need to be reasonable and able to be done
    4. Realistic – it needs to be something that you can actually do
    5. Timely – you need to set a deadline for the shortest time period that you can
  2. You need to figure out specific action steps to get you one step closer to your desired goal.
    1. Example
      1. Goal –> lose 25 lbs. by August 2020
        1. Is it SMART?
          1. Yes.
        2. Action steps
          1. Join a gym (and use it) or start running multiple times per week
          2. Cut carbs
          3. Drink a shake for dinner
    2. Example
      1. Goal –> pay off $10,000 debt by 6/6/2020
        1. Is it SMART?
          1. No. For most people is not achievable to pay off $10,000 debt in a single month
        2. Action steps
          1. Cancel monthly memberships (Netflix, Hulu, iTunes, etc.)
          2. Move 20% of each check into a ‘debt buster’ bank account
          3. Stop eating out or drinking Starbucks

-Wait in the foyer for Lani to verify that your temperature is below 100°
-We took away the stylus to check in. Use your fingers instead, they’re much easier to clean.
